Lowthian Design Works

At Lowthian Design Works (formerly AWA) our goal is to help non-profit and for-profit groups who are working on social and environmental justice. We operate on a donation basis, so groups do not need to fear that a good looking website is outside their budget. Specializing in content management systems means that we create sites that are easy for the organization to update and build without constantly costing more money. We encourage the organization, to take control of their own websites to make them an active and exciting part of their work.

Lowthian Design Works was started as Alternative Web Arieas (AWA) in 1999 when Koinonia Partners needed a new website for their community in South Georgia. After this initial site building experience we went on to create sites for related organizations and small businesses that were working to promote good causes and make the world a better place.

From 2006-2009, we relocated to New Orleans to help with the rebuilding effort. While there sites were created to address immediate needs and other sites which had already been created were maintained and improved. During this time, we learned the importance of community based websites created in content management systems. By creating these websites, Lowthian Design helps with the design and implementation while allowing the organization or business to handle their own content leaving us more time to work on other sites but more importantly empowering the organization to be more involved in their web presence.

We don't work with rates, contracts, or deadlines. We will serve any organization that has been identified as a good match regardless of the ability to pay.   We will work with the organization by matching the amount of time and effort being put into the site from a member of the organizations team, which has lead to websites being set up in as little as 7 days. We will notify a potential client if there are time restrictions, but have historically matched the amount of time and effort directly.
